High Altitude Research Station Jungfraujoch

From January 29th till May 9th the Imachinations appeared with the High Altitude Research Station Jungfraujoch at the "Top of Europe". Since the 1930's important discoveries in the fields of physiology, meteorology, glaciology, radiation, astronomy and cosmic rays have been made at the station in Central Switzerland. Read more about the begining of the cosmic ray research at the Jungfraujoch: results of the research in the station's library.

For the imachination project one of the crucial questions at the Jungfraujoch station was how the character of images has changed from the use of nuclear emulsions to the use of data measurements - or just in short terms "how images scatter into data".[1] Read more conceptual details about the Imachinations in the context of nuclear physics.

Erwin Flückiger, director of the International Foundation High Altitude Research Stations Jungfraujoch and Gornergrat in Bern, made as student an important experience with nuclear emulisions: "My initiation to cosmic ray research was to watch a black star under the microscope". He sees an organizational difference between the high energy physics and cosmic ray research: the different sizes of the groups. (Read the whole interview...)
