Der Betrachter schaut durch die Luke der Gefängnistür in eine dunkle Zelle. Richtet er seine Kamera oder sein Smartphone in die Zelle, so erscheint im Display je nach Kameratyp die Zelle durch das Fenster in hellen, meist violetten Tönen illuminiert. Das Fenster trägt den Frakturschriftzug Gefängnis der Sinne.
Die Arbeit verwendet ein Spezialglas, das im fürs menschliche Auge sichtbaren Spektrum undurchsichtig ist, aber Infrarotlicht, das die meisten Kamerasensoren (mit wenigen Ausnahmen, wie das neue iPhone) registrieren können, passieren läßt. Auf der Scheibe erscheinen als Infrarotschatten die verschiedenen Gitter vor dem Fenster. Die Arbeit verweist auf die Grenzen des menschlichen Sehsinns.

The spectator looks through the hatch in the door in a dark cell. If a digital camera or a smartphone is directed into the space, the cell appears illuminated in the display. Depending on the camera type the colour of the bright light entering through the window has often a violet tone. On the pane it is written in Gothic script: Gefängnis der Sinne [prison of the senses].
The work uses a special glass intransparent for the visible spectrum the human eye is sensitive for. But invisible infrared light which can be registered by most camera sensors (with a few exceptions as the recent iPhone) can trespass the material. The pane also appears as a screen for the projections of the infrared shadows of the iron bars in front of the windows.
